Macroeconomist Consultant – Research Department

About the role

The Inter‑American Development Bank’s Research Department (RES) is seeking a Macroeconomist Consultant to support economists in analytical and policy‑oriented research on macroeconomic issues across Latin America and the Caribbean. Working under senior RES staff, the consultant will help translate complex macro data into concise briefing materials for senior management and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes and Q&A documents on current macro‑economic developments in the region.
• Monitor macro‑economic, financial, fiscal, external and trade indicators and produce short analytical notes on emerging trends.
• Convert findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other publications into accessible policy briefs and dissemination materials.
• Contribute to the drafting and review of the Annual Macroeconomic Report, policy reports, speeches and presentations.
• Build, update and document macro‑economic databases and analytical tools, generating charts, tables and factsheets.
• Conduct research on macro‑economic and financial policy topics and provide rapid analytical inputs as required.

Required profile

• Strong ability to synthesize complex macro‑economic analysis into clear, concise messages for senior decision‑makers and non‑technical audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills in English and Spanish, with proven experience drafting policy briefs, talking points or briefing notes.
• Experience compiling, cleaning and managing macro‑economic data sets.
