Senior Android Video Player Engineer

About the role

Kake is a remote‑first community of senior engineers building high‑scale video streaming products for global brands. As a Senior Android Video Player Engineer you will own the end‑to‑end reliability of live playback on Android and Android TV.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise Android video player frameworks and SDKs for live streaming.
• Customise ExoPlayer components, adaptive‑bitrate (ABR) logic and player builders to boost performance.
• Troubleshoot complex playback issues such as buffering, latency and re‑buffering.
• Work with dynamic manifests (MPD/M3U8) and integrate ad technologies (IMA, DAI, SSAI).
• Use QoE analytics (e.g., Conviva, Mux, Hydrolix) to diagnose and improve real‑world playback.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure playback quality across devices.

Required profile

• 7+ years of Android development with deep expertise in Kotlin and Java.
• Proven experience building and maintaining live video players for Android/Android TV.
• Strong hands‑on experience with ExoPlayer customisation and performance optimisation.
• Ability to debug and optimise playback stability, latency and re‑buffering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
