Freelance Consultant - Market Development Support (Central America)

About the role

A short-term, project-based freelance assignment is open to a locally based consultant in Belize to support a market development assessment in Central America. The consultant plays a key role in stakeholder outreach, industry mapping and connecting the project with relevant market participants. It suits people with strong networks in agriculture, food, retail, distribution, trade or supply chain sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and map key stakeholders across supply chains and market channels in Belize.
• Develop and maintain a contact database of industry participants, associations, distributors, retailers and other organisations.
• Facilitate introductions between stakeholders and the project team.
• Support outreach efforts and encourage participation in interviews, surveys or consultations.
• Coordinate communications and scheduling with local contacts.
• Provide local market insights and context where relevant.
• Track stakeholder engagement and give periodic updates.

Required profile

• Based in Belize with strong local professional networks.
• Experience in market development, business development, agriculture, trade, supply chain, market research or related fields.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage several stakeholder relationships.
• Professional proficiency in English required.
• Advantageous: experience with private sector organisations, industry associations, government agencies or development programmes.

Preferred experience

• Knowledge of agricultural value chains, food distribution, imports/exports or consumer goods markets.
• Previous work on market assessments, research projects, consulting engagements or development initiatives.
• Familiarity with stakeholder mapping and outreach.
